
Jack Thomas Akers , 94, of Franklin Township died Saturday, April 12, 2014. He was a graduate and basketball star of Beech Grove High School. He attended Butler University for one year on a basketball scholarship and was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran. From 1948 to 1976 he owned and operated Akers Cleaners and later Akers Equipment Co. on Main St. in Beech Grove, IN. After retiring from the equipment business, he was an auctioneer for several years. He was married to the former Carol Lancaster (since deceased) and is survived by their children Jim, Joe, and Janice Akers and Judy Pickett and daughter-in-law Judy Akers, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife Doris Akers and her daughters and sons-in-law Becky & Gary Newlin, Joyce & David Settles and Sheila & Sam Ruff. At his request, there will not be a funeral service.
